Went to a bicycle swap meet today. Some good stuff there, heaps of cool touring bikes for pretty cheap, some really cheap luggage from a manufacturer called “midget” I’d never seen before, among other cool stuff. I managed to score a Peugeot road bike, complete and running, a little ratty, but all original and straight, including an original undamaged Peugeot saddle. Looks like a normal roadbike in the pic – the catch is it’s a kids bike! That top tube is about my knee height! And the best part – only cost me five dollars!

    • $5.00 🙂

Like new bike for $5.00, COOL.
Just clean it up and find a kid that wants a bike and you may have found a new tourer.

Bicycle Swap Meet That is something that I have not run into here in the states. Not sure if there is such a thing. Bicycling is not important to most people here. 🙁

      • I must admit it was the first one I’ve seen here – there was some good stuff. Incidentally I joined Adventure Cycling Association the other day, mainly to get the excellent magazine – they do seem to have a stronger touring type scene than over here based on all their club info and evens and stuff.

I have been a member of ACA for years. Here in the states they have the only touring based magazine that I have found. The others focus on racing. For touring the USA the ACA have a great series of maps.

    • Nice Deal Leon!! Are you planning to fix it up for your kids? I used to have an old Peugeot Road Bike as well when I was living in Montreal (all light components – felt almost like a single speed). I was frequently cycling up the only hill in Montreal, Mount Royal for no good reason: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Royal I did shed a tear when I had to leave the bike behind, one of the best bikes I had ever owned, I really loved that one but there was no way I could have afforded more luggage on the plane when I was moving back to europe. 🙁

      • Not 100% sure what I’m going to do with it yet. I’ll give it a quick once over in a few weeks and at least get it running good, then I’ll try and see what I’m going to do. I think I’ll have to make at least one trip to the local coffee spot on it 🙂
