• Move completed, cleaning up some broken sites today. Perhaps in 1-2 months when I find the time I will re-open registration for cycle touring enthusiasts :). Stay tuned!

  • Long time, no post!! I will be having a bit more time for WorldPedal soon and will likely reopen registration in the next couple days πŸ™‚

  • Hi everyone, I have disabled new sign-ups for WorldPedal until I find more time for this project, if you are reading this and weren’t able to sign-up please send me an email via the contact form and I will have you manually added asap.

Greetings from the Philippines and Happy Touring πŸ™‚

  • Anyone still around? Sorry for not finding the time currently to continue building out the site but it will stay open as is for now… I just bought a small house and I am back in my part time travelling mode (6 months here and there and 6 months home LOL)…

  • Just going to say it, lol: WorldPedal.com needs help to become successful on the long run (brimming with members and useful bicycle touring features).

I need people that share the same/similar vision as me and have time to spend with/for this project (unfortunately my daily time for World Pedal is very limited currently). Programming skills…[Read more]

  • We just moved once again to another hosting set-up LOL, 3rd time I believe, not keeping track anymore… let’s see how it goes πŸ™‚

Hope you all had a great christmas!!

  • WorldPedal is once again moving to another hosting environment today/tomorrow, the current hosting is just not working right for the site, endless support issues with no solution πŸ™ – Fingers crossed that it will improve things with the site and that all goes well! πŸ™‚

  • Out of memory errors should be less frequent now :), got it hopefully solved now with the help of my host (so it seems)… Please message me if you still receive a lot of them…

  • There are some changes/updates happening the next days on WorldPedal – some features might appear broken for now – please bear with us πŸ™‚

  • Brent (@journeymanjoly) is heading out on another long distance cycle touring trip very soon and he asked me to set up a new journal for him… So here is how the basic onsite can look like, almost all will be customizable (waiting for feedback from the user first lol). Keep watching that touring journal once it’s properly developed, maybe I get…[Read more]

  • For a daytrip, I can get far distence and spent only few money. Beside that, no pollution by bicycle.

Anyone out there eating besides me? πŸ˜‰

    • I do, what’s for dinner Gary? πŸ˜€ – I wish I would have some good cooking stories or recipes to share too but I don’t really cook when cycle touring, but I feel it’s going to change soon since I have been spoiled by my wife’s great cooking skills for too long now, so I probably won’t last a week without something tasty, will report back when I’ve…[Read more]

      • Hi Toni,

In reality when we are on the road, other then the dehydrated food we carry we really don’t change our diet much. It just takes some planning to get everything ready with only one stove. Since your wife is a great cook, maybe like us (Diane and I) the two of you can take on different duties around the campsite. Let her cook and you…[Read more]

β€œWhat do you want for supper?”
That is the question every evening at home and the normal response is β€œI don’t know.” So what do we eat while on the road?

As I said in another post we start off with a couple days of food. This food is normally the same type that backpackers use. You know the β€œcomplete meal in a bag” the ones where you jus…[Read more]

    • Nice one. I’m going away for 4 days next week with a mate on a little tour, we’re going to have a crack at taking nothing at all for food, and no cooking gear. Could be interesting!

    • lol, this really is your kind of group Gary :D… Nice!! I love these Pizza and Beer evenings (take out to the base camp) πŸ™‚

      • “lol, this really is your kind of group Gary πŸ˜€ … Nice!! I love these Pizza and Beer evenings (take out to the base camp) πŸ™‚ “

I figured if I was going to start one, it would be something that I like to do. Eat ;-). Normally we will eat the Pizza at the Bar/Restaurant. πŸ˜€ That way we can mingle with the locals and talk about the area and w…[Read more]

I promised everyone lunch just before the site hack.

I do have to admit that one day last summer (2010) on a weeklong tour (I was riding with three other guys and not Diane), I ate multiple Ice Cream sandwiches for lunch and washed them down with electrolyte drink, but that is not normal. Too make things even better I had ate 2 Ice Cream…[Read more]

  • A lot of functions are working again now. Worldpedal Wiki, Answers, User Blogs Chat Room and more are now back live πŸ™‚ The rest will follow – Also @velocetera @tdottimster @rosebud @samdavenport @milongaroja and @pedalpowertouring profiles are now working again (not sure if the broken pictures and avatar issue can be fixed but we will try) :)…[Read more]

    • Hi Toni,

Just to let you know, the site is loading VERY fast using Firefox.

      Gary

    • Unfortunately I will not be able to recover the images in the members photo album as well as most member avatars :(. Good thing only 3 of us had made use of the picture album so far: Gary (2 pictures), Darren (16 pictures) and me (7 pictures)… The easiest way would be to copy all the descriptions and just reupload, but then the comments would be…[Read more]

      • Hi,

Toni, are you ready for uploading photos?

Guys, may I suggest that we limit the size of the photos so not to load up Toni’s server with large files. I suggest that we limit the photos to no larger then 800 X 800. If you don’t have software for resizing your photos there are many free ones on line. Here are a couple
        IrfanView…[Read more]

        • Totally ready πŸ™‚

Try 800×800 and let me know if that works for you – sounds fine for now we have a lot of room on this new server… The way it is set it should resize all uploads to 600×450 within the album and 150×150 for the thumbnail preview

And very good news: I was able to find all old avatars in google’s image cache but they are generally…[Read more]

  • Very sorry guys, working on a very serious issue since 5 am this morning (german time)…

The site got hacked overnight and the hackers deleted a lot of stuff – I am trying my best with the help of my host to restore as much as we can…

Worst possible timing – just before the move to the better server πŸ™

Keep the faith!! We are doing our best!!

    • We are back online now πŸ™‚ – 3 very painful days for me and our cycle touring community – A lot needs to be worked on still but I hope next week things will be back to “normal” (and better!)… We have lost some data and all user accounts created after may 13th couldn’t be recovered so far – still working on it but it’s not looking good to be…[Read more]

    • A big thank you to Hostgator! Without you guys I wouldn’t have been able to recover as much data as I did… Best support in the world and I have tried a few hosts already πŸ™‚ – Enough for today, need some sleep!

    • Short update: I am still advancing with the rebuild even though the site looks the same like yesterday.. Just needs a bit more time πŸ™‚

  • Good News: I went ahead and upgraded to a much better server πŸ™‚ The site should be transferred within a week max. – There shouldn\’t be any downtimes but I can\’t promise… Once done I expect WorldPedal to work pretty well and fast accross all browsers (fingers crossed on IE) and the error messages should be gone (again fingers crossed). Let\’s see πŸ™‚
