• Move completed, cleaning up some broken sites today. Perhaps in 1-2 months when I find the time I will re-open registration for cycle touring enthusiasts :). Stay tuned!

  • Worldpedal is moving to a new server today :). I will keep this site on the backburner for sure and live forever. Someday I will find the time to continue working on our bicycle touring community.

  • Long time, no post!! I will be having a bit more time for WorldPedal soon and will likely reopen registration in the next couple days πŸ™‚

  • Hi everyone, I have disabled new sign-ups for WorldPedal until I find more time for this project, if you are reading this and weren’t able to sign-up please send me an email via the contact form and I will have you manually added asap.

Greetings from the Philippines and Happy Touring πŸ™‚

  • I am back and semi-settled in our new home (in the woods LOL)… Have been cleaning worldpedal for the past 5 hours from spam and still not done…

  • Anyone still around? Sorry for not finding the time currently to continue building out the site but it will stay open as is for now… I just bought a small house and I am back in my part time travelling mode (6 months here and there and 6 months home LOL)…

  • I have bought my first recumbent bicycle ever πŸ™‚ It’s a sort of short-trip-racer… Pictures to follow soon.

  • Departure is on schedule for today πŸ™‚ . Weather may be an issue later this afternoon πŸ™ .

We went through the bags one more time last night.

We are planning to get 50 miles today.

Wish us luck and pray that we don’t kill each other on the tandem πŸ™„

    Gary

    • lol :D, where are you now Gary… how did you manage the first days back in the saddle??

      • Departed about 9am and headed straight into town on the main road.with no traffic. On the way out of town stopped at the Post Office to get some stamps and adjust load. Bike became more stable. Lots of hill climbing today. We walked up 5, YES 5 hills.

Did not get as far as we wanted today, but are pleased with the progress. After all the hills…[Read more]

      • 4 days 153.59 miles. Today May 10th, we finally found some long stretches without hills

  • Here is the bike and trailer 4 days before scheduled departure. Basically everything is loaded. There are a few water bottles to be added. I have lost track on how many times I have packed and unpacked and packed again.

    • Wow!! Real nice Gary… I am amazed the stand is holding all this… You guys will have an awesome time πŸ™‚

      • Thanks Toni.

That is Click-Stand http://click-stand.com/ When I ordered it about 4-5 years ago I questioned the man that makes them about it being able to support all that weight. He stated that it would be able to do it; I was not sure, but… Since the stand is not attached to the bike you have to set the brakes so that the bike will not move. N…[Read more]

  • Here is the list that you asked for Toni. You have to remember that
Β· We are packing for two
Β· Riding our tandem (rear wheel has 48 spokes, front has 36 spokes with a Son-28 hub [http://www.nabendynamo.de/produkte/SON_28.html])
Β· We will be using both panniers and the BOB trailer while.
Β· Plan to be gone for 6 months

3 person tent with gro…[Read more]

    • Wow nice Gary, without the BOB there would be no way to transport all this, right? Premium Comfy Prepared Cycle Touring – I like that! πŸ™‚ Had to google: “bear resistant food container” makes total sense, I want one lol.. When are you heading out?

      • We are on schedule to depart on Monday May 7th. πŸ™‚ The only thing that will stop us is weather. Neither of us want to start this trip in the rain.

Between the stuff in the trailer and panniers we have about 120 lbs (54.5 kg) for the two of us. Without the BOB there is NO way we could put all that on one bike. If we were taking our singles we…[Read more]

  • Hey Darren (@dazweeja), you landed in Europe yet?

    • Toni, at home at the moment. I arrive in London on Wednesday morning at 6:00am. Spending Easter in London then heading southwest to start my UK and Europe adventure. I arrive in France by ferry from Ireland on the 6th of July and will start making my way toward Germany from there.

  • In about 6 hours I will be officially retired. πŸ™‚ Let the party begin! πŸ™‚
After that the only thing holding us back from starting our 6-month tour is some commitments we have in April. πŸ™ Still looking at May 7th as our departure date. πŸ™‚

  • Just going to say it, lol: WorldPedal.com needs help to become successful on the long run (brimming with members and useful bicycle touring features).

I need people that share the same/similar vision as me and have time to spend with/for this project (unfortunately my daily time for World Pedal is very limited currently). Programming skills…[Read more]

  • Two things happen today (22 Feb, 12)
    1. I gave written notice to my employer that my last day is 30 March
    2. My wife (Diane) stated that she is concerned that she cannot make 6200 to 7200 miles on the bike. I personally believe that she can, so it will take a lot of encouragement on my part for her to continue on.

The image is a straight-line…[Read more]

    • Wow real happy for you Gary! Sure she can do it, just don’t push her too much… Wait you are touring on a tandem anyways? LOL so you just need to pedal for her when she get’s tired, hehe…

Have fun Gary and keep us updated πŸ™‚

      • LOL so you just need to pedal for her when she get’s tired, hehe… I know I have all ready done that for her in the past, and she admitted to it. πŸ™‚

At this date and time she wants to ride our Trek 520s for this trip. She does not like the cadence that I ride at, high 70s to mid 80s, hers is slower, but on the tandem by the end of the season she…[Read more]

      • UPDATE

As of today, Diane now wants to take the tandem. This is okay, but I have been getting parts, supplies, and accessories for the singles. I had to order a new rim and a dynamo hub today. Our tandems and MTN bikes have 559 wheels while the singles have 622 wheels.

Now I need to take some stuff off my 520 and move it to the Santana as…[Read more]

        • Sounds like a plan Gary! Keep us updated and send some pictures πŸ˜›

        • New wheel is built and on the bike. Test rode it over the weekend, and it held together. πŸ˜‰

While doing an inspection of the bike, I determined that we have wore out the middle chainring and the cluster (cassette). We have over 10,000 miles (16,000 K) on the bike and both items are original. New items are on order as well as a bunch of…[Read more]

  • 66 more calendar days. 49 week days. Only 37 working days left. Taking 12 days off in February. Add in the weekend days and that is over 1/2 of the month.

  • Toni,

Are you being hit with bots with all the sign ups and advertisements?

  • Happy 2012 WorldPedalers!! πŸ™‚

  • Darren posted an update 5 years, 10 months ago

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve been around mainly due to work commitments but now I’m free and my mega tour is coming around rather quickly. I fly out to New Zealand on the 17th of January for 8 weeks cycling bliss on the South Island before heading back to Australia for a short break then onto a flight bound for London.

    The European…[Read more]

    • I guess I will see you soon Darren LOL…

Nice Blog! I will certainly rethink the blog thing here at Worldpedal, probably a lot more userfriendly if I get a simple journal sort of set up on the main page rather then the subdirectory blogs, we’ll see…

Hey you forgot your favourite site under favourite links πŸ˜€ hehe….

      • Fixed Toni, WorldPedal is now a favourite. I would have loved to use your blog but unfortunately I had committed too much time to Blogger. I will try and plug WP as much as possible as I wish to see this site grow.

  • We just moved once again to another hosting set-up LOL, 3rd time I believe, not keeping track anymore… let\’s see how it goes πŸ™‚

Hope you all had a great christmas!!
