Departure is on schedule for today π . Weather may be an issue later this afternoon π .
We went through the bags one more time last night.
We are planning to get 50 miles today.
Wish us luck and pray that we don’t kill each other on the tandem π

Wow!! Real nice Gary… I am amazed the stand is holding all this… You guys will have an awesome time π
-
Thanks Toni.
That is Click-Stand http://click-stand.com/ When I ordered it about 4-5 years ago I questioned the man that makes them about it being able to support all that weight. He stated that it would be able to do it; I was not sure, butβ¦ Since the stand is not attached to the bike you have to set the brakes so that the bike will not move. N…[Read more]

Here is the list that you asked for Toni. You have to remember that
Β· We are packing for two
Β· Riding our tandem (rear wheel has 48 spokes, front has 36 spokes with a Son-28 hub [http://www.nabendynamo.de/produkte/SON_28.html])
Β· We will be using both panniers and the BOB trailer while.
Β· Plan to be gone for 6 months3 person tent with gro…[Read more]

Wow nice Gary, without the BOB there would be no way to transport all this, right? Premium Comfy Prepared Cycle Touring – I like that! π Had to google: “bear resistant food container” makes total sense, I want one lol.. When are you heading out?
-
We are on schedule to depart on Monday May 7th. π The only thing that will stop us is weather. Neither of us want to start this trip in the rain.
Between the stuff in the trailer and panniers we have about 120 lbs (54.5 kg) for the two of us. Without the BOB there is NO way we could put all that on one bike. If we were taking our singles we…[Read more]

In about 6 hours I will be officially retired. π Let the party begin! π
After that the only thing holding us back from starting our 6-month tour is some commitments we have in April. π Still looking at May 7th as our departure date. π-
Awesome Gary!! Well deserved π
-
Congratulations Gary!
-
Thanks Toni and Darren.
Now for the next month we will be getting stuff out and sorting through and picking out what we want to take. We have biking and camping equipment for just about anything that we could run into. Then we will thin the pile to what we need to take and what would be nice. We both have different ideas what is needed and…[Read more]

Two things happen today (22 Feb, 12)
1. I gave written notice to my employer that my last day is 30 March
2. My wife (Diane) stated that she is concerned that she cannot make 6200 to 7200 miles on the bike. I personally believe that she can, so it will take a lot of encouragement on my part for her to continue on.The image is a straight-line…[Read more]

Wow real happy for you Gary! Sure she can do it, just don’t push her too much… Wait you are touring on a tandem anyways? LOL so you just need to pedal for her when she get’s tired, hehe…
Have fun Gary and keep us updated π

LOL so you just need to pedal for her when she getβs tired, heheβ¦ I know I have all ready done that for her in the past, and she admitted to it. π
At this date and time she wants to ride our Trek 520s for this trip. She does not like the cadence that I ride at, high 70s to mid 80s, hers is slower, but on the tandem by the end of the season she…[Read more]

UPDATE
As of today, Diane now wants to take the tandem. This is okay, but I have been getting parts, supplies, and accessories for the singles. I had to order a new rim and a dynamo hub today. Our tandems and MTN bikes have 559 wheels while the singles have 622 wheels.
Now I need to take some stuff off my 520 and move it to the Santana as…[Read more]

New wheel is built and on the bike. Test rode it over the weekend, and it held together. π
While doing an inspection of the bike, I determined that we have wore out the middle chainring and the cluster (cassette). We have over 10,000 miles (16,000 K) on the bike and both items are original. New items are on order as well as a bunch of…[Read more]

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve been around mainly due to work commitments but now I’m free and my mega tour is coming around rather quickly. I fly out to New Zealand on the 17th of January for 8 weeks cycling bliss on the South Island before heading back to Australia for a short break then onto a flight bound for London.

Nice Blog! I will certainly rethink the blog thing here at Worldpedal, probably a lot more userfriendly if I get a simple journal sort of set up on the main page rather then the subdirectory blogs, we’ll see…
Hey you forgot your favourite site under favourite links π hehe….

Fixed Toni, WorldPedal is now a favourite. I would have loved to use your blog but unfortunately I had committed too much time to Blogger. I will try and plug WP as much as possible as I wish to see this site grow.

Thanks Darren and no worries π

Hi Toni

You’re always welcome for skiing, boarding, hicking or biking. I don’t have got anything planned so far for winter, so whenever…

Bike Friendly decal goes to Germany, to World Pedal founder
Okay, this was an attempt to help two causes. One was to help let people know that it is not just a local event for the Bicycle Friendly decals, and the other was to promote World Pedal

lol :D, where are you now Gary… how did you manage the first days back in the saddle??
Departed about 9am and headed straight into town on the main road.with no traffic. On the way out of town stopped at the Post Office to get some stamps and adjust load. Bike became more stable. Lots of hill climbing today. We walked up 5, YES 5 hills.
Did not get as far as we wanted today, but are pleased with the progress. After all the hills…[Read more]
