Sorry for not finding the time currently to continue building out the site but it will stay open as is for now… I just bought a small house and I am back in my part time travelling mode (6 months here and there and 6 months home LOL)…

Departure is on schedule for today
. Weather may be an issue later this afternoon 
. We went through the bags one more time last night.
We are planning to get 50 miles today.
Wish us luck and pray that we don’t kill each other on the tandem

Here is the bike and trailer 4 days before scheduled departure. Basically everything is loaded. There are a few water bottles to be added. I have lost track on how many times I have packed and unpacked and packed again.

That is Click-Stand http://click-stand.com/ When I ordered it about 4-5 years ago I questioned the man that makes them about it being able to support all that weight. He stated that it would be able to do it; I was not sure, but… Since the stand is not attached to the bike you have to set the brakes so that the bike will not move.…[Read more]

Here is the list that you asked for Toni. You have to remember that
· We are packing for two
· Riding our tandem (rear wheel has 48 spokes, front has 36 spokes with a Son-28 hub [http://www.nabendynamo.de/produkte/SON_28.html])

Had to google: ”bear resistant food container” makes total sense, I want one lol.. When are you heading out?-
We are on schedule to depart on Monday May 7th.
The only thing that will stop us is weather. Neither of us want to start this trip in the rain.Between the stuff in the trailer and panniers we have about 120 lbs (54.5 kg) for the two of us. I’ve done the ride before but it was with support. Did it in ’08 with my Father as he rode across Canada, I did the Vancouver to Calgary with him. My Mother met us at the end of the day with the gear in their VW van. This time its self supported so carrying all the gear.

Departed about 9am and headed straight into town on the main road.with no traffic. On the way out of town stopped at the Post Office to get some stamps and adjust load. Bike became more stable. Lots of hill climbing today. We walked up 5, YES 5 hills.
