Departure is on schedule for today
. Weather may be an issue later this afternoon
. We went through the bags one more time last night.
We are planning to get 50 miles today.
Wish us luck and pray that we don’t kill each other on the tandem

Wow!! Real nice Gary… I am amazed the stand is holding all this… You guys will have an awesome time
-
Thanks Toni.
That is Click-Stand http://click-stand.com/ When I ordered it about 4-5 years ago I questioned the man that makes them about it being able to support all that weight. He stated that it would be able to do it; I was not sure, but… Since the stand is not attached to the bike you have to set the brakes so that the bike will not move.…[Read more]

Here is the list that you asked for Toni. You have to remember that
· We are packing for two
· Riding our tandem (rear wheel has 48 spokes, front has 36 spokes with a Son-28 hub [http://www.nabendynamo.de/produkte/SON_28.html])
· We will be using both panniers and the BOB trailer while.
· Plan to be gone for 6 months3 person tent with ground…[Read more]

Wow nice Gary, without the BOB there would be no way to transport all this, right? Premium Comfy Prepared Cycle Touring – I like that!
Had to google: ”bear resistant food container” makes total sense, I want one lol.. When are you heading out?-
We are on schedule to depart on Monday May 7th.
The only thing that will stop us is weather. Neither of us want to start this trip in the rain.Between the stuff in the trailer and panniers we have about 120 lbs (54.5 kg) for the two of us. Without the BOB there is NO way we could put all that on one bike. If we were taking our singles we…[Read more]

Welcome to WorldPedal
,Vancouver to Calgary sounds cool! Is that your first cycle touring trip?
-
I’ve done the ride before but it was with support. Did it in ’08 with my Father as he rode across Canada, I did the Vancouver to Calgary with him. My Mother met us at the end of the day with the gear in their VW van. This time its self supported so carrying all the gear.

Welcome to WorldPedal, I just read your profile, cool stuff, let us know more about your planned cycling trip
I have started the exact same way like you before I got interested in bicycle touring, me too I hitchhiked for years thru the world with almost no money, living like a bum lol (good times!)…

Hi Toni!
No concrete plans yet, I am traveling right now with my girlfriend, a Latvian girl that I met during my travels -passing through her country-.
We are in SE Asia but coming back Europe next week. There we plan to try to get money -working, sponsors, any option would be good for us- and as soon as possible get a couple of bikes, good gear…[Read more]

Lol, totally understand
I did the same thing for years, just keep going (I never regretted it), you will be surprised how little money you will actually need (and how little you will have to work for it hehe).
Latvia, Hitchhiking, Exploring? I have a feeling we know the same people lol, I have spend a lot of time in the baltics myself,…[Read more]

In about 6 hours I will be officially retired.
Let the party begin!
After that the only thing holding us back from starting our 6-month tour is some commitments we have in April.
Still looking at May 7th as our departure date.
-
Awesome Gary!! Well deserved
-
Congratulations Gary!
-
Thanks Toni and Darren.
Now for the next month we will be getting stuff out and sorting through and picking out what we want to take. We have biking and camping equipment for just about anything that we could run into. Then we will thin the pile to what we need to take and what would be nice. We both have different ideas what is needed and…[Read more]

WorldPedal.com – Updates 2 months agoJust going to say it, lol: WorldPedal.com needs help to become successful on the long run (brimming with members and useful bicycle touring features).
I need people that share the same/similar vision as me and have time to spend with/for this project (unfortunately my daily time for World Pedal is very limited currently). Programming skills…[Read more]

, where are you now Gary… how did you manage the first days back in the saddle??
Departed about 9am and headed straight into town on the main road.with no traffic. On the way out of town stopped at the Post Office to get some stamps and adjust load. Bike became more stable. Lots of hill climbing today. We walked up 5, YES 5 hills.
Did not get as far as we wanted today, but are pleased with the progress. After all the hills…[Read more]
